Loire Valley Towns

Blois

The town of Blois is the capital city of the Loir-et-Cher department and one of France's great historical cities. It must have been a stirring site to sail down the Loire River as most did centuries ago to spy the lofted Château de Blois, the cathedral and the towering church spires. This was one of the favourite retreats of French royals and the town retains an air of grandeur.

Our guide around Château de Blois was again superbly informed and keen to discuss all aspects of the Château and its surrounding history. I was never very brushed-up on French history but a trip like this inspires you to learn more.
