The next day we followed the Loire on smaller country roads until we reached the village and Château of Chaumont-sur-Loire. Here, yet again is another fine pile overlooking the river. You might think all these French castles would get a bit boring but each offers a completely different experience, this one in the form of an International Garden Festival, a meeting place for artists, designers, landscaping experts and sculptors of all nationalities. During 2008, the Festival put on around 30 new gardens created by teams whose designs have been selected through an international competition. “Sharing the Garden” was the theme and each was a unique and inspiring experience.
