Tat Beach Golf Resort has possibly the best piece of golfing real estate on the Turkish Riviera. With open vistas to the Taurus Mountains and several holes running down to the sea these 27 holes have great potential.

Since we first visited some 10 years ago, the entire complex has suffered from neglect. The grass is tired and in need of a good feed. The clubhouse is a vast, empty cavern with little in the way of appeal, especially noticeable when you compare it to the glamorous clubhouses at the likes of Montgomerie and Carya.

However, help is at hand and the three loops of 9 and clubhouse are due for a major revamp this season, closing in May 2010 for 4½ months. Martin Hawtree & Co. have been appointed to do the make-over and restore the complex’s good name.

Speaking of which, I wonder if they’ll change the name! 'Tat' somehow just doesn’t have a positive ring! Meanwhile, it’s not a bad design and with some superficial adjustments to bunkering and the greens along with better greenkeeping, Tat Beach should come on splendidly to suit a wide variety of players especially mid to high handicaps. And as usual, from the back tees, it's a worthy test for better players, particularly considering its breathtaking surrounds.
